There's always a siren singing you to shipwreck; |
Name: Chep Hamilton Nickname: Just Chep. Birthday: May 13th, 1988 Age: 20 Handwriting: here. Manner of Speech: When Chep first meets someone or if he is uncomfortable, he will speak quietly, haltingly. The more he becomes comfortable with someone, however, the easier his words will flow. While he speaks, he will rub his face, splay his fingers, tap on his chest of abdomen with his fingertips, and generally be distracting. Sometimes, he is difficult to speak to, especially if he becomes flustered. |
(don't reach out don't reach out); |
Height: 5' 8' Weight: 115 Build: Extremely skinny. Eye Color: An almost unbelievably bright blue. Hair Color: Dirty blond. Dress Style: Getting dressed isn't exactly Chep's specialty. He generally wears a bathrobe and fuzzy slippers, scrub pants and a t-shirt, or any number of shabby jeans and shirt combinations, sometimes inside out or backwards. Possessions: Several quirky things he brought from the prop shop: fifteen ballpoint pens, a jar of various buttons, a stuffed rabbit, a plastic hand, a very tiny penguin, three iridescent marbles, a maroon blanket, three pairs of large, cheapsunglasses, a fedora, and a large locket shaped like a venus flytrap which contains a movie ticket. Home: Los Angeles, California Parents: Lina Marie Hamilton, father unknown. Siblings: None. Financial Status: Chep has a very small sum from his grandparent's estate, but is considered a ward of Cheshire Crossings and therefore only has access to it by proxy. History: Chep Hamilton was born May thirteenth, nineteen eighty-eight, the bastard son of an alcoholic mother who promptly dumped him with his grandparents, Robert andMarienne Hamilton. Neither of them were physically or mentally prepared to raise a child, and though they did their best, Chep still spent the majority of his childhood parked in front of their ancient television, watching their old movies. The boy watched everymovie in their meager collection over and over, wearing out those VHS tapes only to cry and sob and beg for more. His grandparents always tried to convince him to get new movies, that he could have altitle variety, but he refused to change, and seeing no reason why not, they would relent and buy those same fifteen movies over and over again. SoChep was raised on a steady diet of the same fifteen or so films, all ancient and mostly forgotten by anyone but himself. As the boy grew older, it became obvious that he would not be fit for schooling with other children his age. A pediatrician explained to Bob andMarienne that their grandson was not stupid (they had assumed that this was the case, due to his mother's drinking), but rather that his mind worked too quickly, developing rapidly in some areas and not at all in others. He required some outside force to focus himself and couldn't really accomplish this on his own. This was why he watched the same movies, in the same order, every single day. Diagnosing him and "idiot savant", the doctor advised more tests to be doneand went on his merry way. Of course, the Hamiltons had no money for tests, so they kept Chep out of school and Marienne did her best to educate him. Mary was an inexperienced teacher, though, and easily tired by the boy and his various antics. In the end, he was lucky to learn basic skills in language and math, and a slight bit of science. With his grandparents already in their late sixties at his birth,Chep should have realized that their passing away was an immanent threat, but no one informed him and his grandparents never mentioned it. The fall after his sixteenth birthday, Marienne passed away in her sleep. By his seventeenth birthday, Robert had passed as well. For reasons that no one could begin to surmise, neither of them had left any semblance of a will. Therefore their estate was sent to the long and arduous process of probate andChep was left to his own devices while the state tried to determine whether or not he was technically and legally an adult. Sensing the incompetence of the social workers and lawyers, the boy decided to make his own way in the world, and when his grandparent's estate was auctioned off he crawled into the truck that was being used to haul the odds and ends. A few bumpy hours later and he was in Hollywood, parked outside of a enormous and dirty prop shop. The men who had bought the estate, Hamish andBundy , weren't entirely sure what to do with the boy, but since he wouldn't leave, they said he could stay the night. By the next morning they found him working furiously, arranging things in an incomprehensible semblance of order. Soon they realized that the boy had spent the night memorizing every detail about the shop and eachknick knack that it held. It only made sense to give him a job, right? And besides, he didn't seem very keen on leaving. For three quiet years, Chep worked happily at the shop, maintaining that uncanny knowledge of the warehouse and everything that it contained. His bosses could request anything, and moments later, he would produce it or inform them exactly which set it was on. To theirknowledge, Chep never left the shop, and indeed, he certainly lived there, enclosed in that dusty tomb for anything that any art direction team could ever desire. But the boy had a double life of which his employers remained unaware. At night, the young man would wander down to the old theatre, a failing establishment in a bad part of town that played the exact same movie every night, an old vintage melodrama. He would buy one ticket and a bucket of popcorn with spare change he had scrounged up from the shop and make his way into the movie, always absolutely enthralled. Once the movie ended, he would wander the streets, watching all of the people in their windows, and the whole world was a movie to him, all of it his cinema, sometimes a comedy and sometimes a tragedy, and always absolutely intriguing. Hamish and Bundy continually told Chep that he needed to come 'out' with them, telling him that he remained cooped up too much and that it would do him good. The boy always refused these offers, preferring his own routine, the thought of all of those strange people frightening and confusing him. But on the Halloween after his twentieth birthday,Bundy and Hamish decided that they would no longer take no for an answer and even bought a Halloween mask for their employee. While the men were out, they leftChep in charge of the shop, and that was the moment that he met Fran. Just before she walked through the door, he found a flyer in one of the drawers that advertised Bundy's prop shop as being for sale, all props included with the property. Immediately, Chep fell as though he were falling apart at the seams, and the props began to move and slither on the desk, reforming into a shape that looked like eyeballs. It was Fran's voice that woke him from the stupor of watching the props, and he asked her how he could help her in an embarrassed rush of words. The woman was beautiful, an art director on the set of a movie that was being filmed in the city. Singularly passionate about her job, she was in desperate need of real rhinoceros eyes for a set.Chep knew that the shop had a set of authentic rhinoceros eyes, but they were currently on the set of another film and couldn't be re-rented until they were returned. But Fran was insistent, she needed the eyes now, and nothing else would suffice. The womanplead with Chep and took his hand, and he was absolutely in love in that moment...so he agreed to get the eyes for her. Hamish and Bundy returned, and Chep went to a raucous Halloween party at a bar with them after donning the mask that they bought him, a representation of the famous wrestler, Tor Johnson. The party turned south when fourfratboys in gorilla costumes began heckling the group, and Hamish's blind friend, Sweets, started a bar fight. Chep fled, terrified, and ran straight to the set of the movie that the eyes were at, a pornographic film. Running through in the middle of filming, he stole the eyes and returned to the prop house, exhausted. It was a dangerous move, but when Fran returned the next day, he had the eyes and he was able to give them to her, and she was overjoyed. But the eyes weren't enough, Fran needed more, and Chep was practically dying to help her again. Her request was simple; a vintage prosthetic arm, fashioned for a woman, made of mahogany. Once again, the props re-formed, but this time, instead of a vague shape, they made up a definite form, almost like a doll. They spoke to him, told him of the shop's closing, that he would need to do more than just bring her theknick knacks, and that he needed to listen to them. Chep made his second burglary, this time from the neighbors across the street. The victims were an old woman and an old man who Chep always watched from his window. He would regularly see the old woman beating the man relentlessly with - what else? - an old prosthetic arm. And so he broke in and stole the arm, but not until after being caught by the owners of the house. Fortunately, he had been smart enough to wear that strange Halloween mask, and therefore, they had no idea that it was him. Perhaps Fran knew that he was not coming by the props honestly, but when she showed up the next day, he not only had the arm, but had also set up an elaborate array of prop food in a prop tent surrounded in lights. He was taking the advice of the props, trying to do more. Fran was charmed, but slightly uncomfortable, and she left the prop house after thankingChep profusely. Though Fran returned to her home, Chep went into a haze of delusion. In his mind, the woman came back, seduced him, and made love to him. His obsession grew. Unfortunately, the boy was no professional, and soon enough a detective showed up at Bundy's prop shop asking questions. Of course, Detective Barbara took his job far too seriously. Who cared about a few missing props? But the otherburglary had taken place just across the street, and the man was understandably suspicious. After questioning Hamish and Bundy, he made his way into the warehouse and began to question Chep , who had been thoroughly warned by the props not to tell the detective anything. Never one for dishonesty, the boy was confused and upset by the questions, doing his best and hoping that somehow it was good enough. Though the detective almost saw the mask that day, he was miraculously distracted by a prop, and he went on his way. The way Chep saw it, the props had saved him. But they were outlasting their welcome. Every time they reformed, they got a little bigger, a little more powerful...a little more like him. Chep attended his movie that night the way he always did, followed closely by the detective, who was staking out his house. When the movie ended, he walked the streets as he always did...but this time, with a destination in mind. Fran had mentioned that her house was up the street from the prop shop, around the corner.Chep found it, and watched her through the curtains as she worked on her own private obsession...a tiny and perfect dollhouse. There was nothing malicious or perverted in the way he watched her, he simply wanted to know more about her. She worked on the tiny house and he smiled, loving everything about her, remembering what they had (not really) done the night before. But she nearly saw him, and he scrambled off of the roof and ran back to the prop shop. But now Barbara had his lead, and the next day Fran called Chep at the prop shop and asked to meet him at the theatre, telling him that the detective had contacted her about the stolen props. Though he was supposed to stay and watch the prop house, the props formed into that strange doll and told him that he had to go and meet her, or he would lose her forever. SoChep went to the movie theatre, which was when everything began to fall apart. Fran was upset, she had known in some way that he was not obtaining the props in a legal fashion but had convinced herself otherwise. Now she wanted answers, and whenChep gave them to her, she wasn't happy...but he told her that he would do anything, that she had to tell him what she needed because he could get it for her. He could give her anything. She told him that the character in the movie needed to find his son's finger in a pickle jar...and she couldn't bring herself to use a prosthetic. With tears in his eyes,Chep thanked her for giving him another mission, and began trying to figure out what he was going to do. But at that moment, the movie reached it's climax, and Fran realized that the lines that the characters were saying were some of the same things thatChep had said to her. When she questioned him he told her that he said those things to her because they were in love, and when she acted shocked, he brought up the fact that they had slept together, that she had seduced him. At that moment, Fran snapped out of her denial and realized the extent ofChep's obsession with her. Crying, she left, and he was alone in the theatre and heartbroken. But he still had to complete the mission that his lady had given him. He had to find the prop. Sanity falling apart at the seams, Chep went to the morgue, mask on, attempting to cut the finger off of a corpse, but he was caught and he ran. The boy was intercepted by a transvestiteprostitute who took him back to an alley. As the prostitute came onto him, he tried to bite off her finger, and she beat him and ran to call the police. Exhausted, heartbroken, and running out of options,Chep returned to the prop house where his props were waiting for him. But they were no longer props...they were him. They had become a double of him. Though he screamed for them to leave, they told him to calm down, that he could still have Fran if he gave her what she needed. The Other Him extended a finger and told him to chop it off, and screaming,Chep obeyed. And that was when Fran showed up...only she wasn't there, and this was no more real than the night she slept with him. The Other took his finger and offered it to her, beckoning her into the storeroom. They disappeared together into that dark room, andChep knew that he had lost her. It wasn't until after he witnessed the betrayal by his alter ego that he realized that the finger that had been cut off was not that of the props, but his own. Screaming, he lost consciousness. Bundy and Hamish returned later, wading through all those props and finally finding him, bleeding and shaking on the floor. It was clear that the boy had problems that had been left unchecked since childhood, and that the trauma of discovering that the shop would be sold had pushed him over some terrible edge. But he had nothing, and his employers didn't possess the resources to help him. And so, by the doctor'srecommendation, he was taken on pro-bono by Cheshire Crossing. |

Personality: [Jung typology personality profile; INFP.] For Chep, there exists very little separation between what he sees in movies and what he sees in real life; the world, as it were, is his cinema. He enjoys watching those around him, and thought he certainly understands what it is that he sees, he views it as one would view a film. The empathy exists, sure, but it is the empathy of an audience. Feeling, but unable to affect. Though some might find his people watching disturbing, he means no harm by it. it is only amusing to him, and also intriguing as his exposure to other people has been incredibly limited from a young age. Though he often seems to be in disarray, Chep continually experiences very long and involved thought processes. Putting these into words either spoken or written often eludes him. He can tell you the precise location of any prop in a three thousand square foot warehouse, for example, but can barely remember to tie his shoes. Were he told to write down anything important, it might send him into a panic attack. Because of this, and because of his halting speech and mannerisms,Chep is often thought to be mentally retarded, but this is simply not the case. Though he is quiet and seems quiet introverted, this has much less to do with any asocial tendencies and more to do with the sheer volume of his thought processes. A creature of routine, Chep can generally be counted on to do the exact same thing every day with very little deviation. He will watch the same movies hundreds of times despite the fact that, after seeing one film one time, he can quote it word for word. Because he was raised by old movies, he fully expects events to unfold in a very vintage-Hollywood manner. When they don't, he will feel very confused and disconcerted. To compensate for his confusion, he will often slip into a delusion with no concept of any differentiation from real life. Chep will attach himself relentlessly to those that show him kindness and attention. On one hand, he will do anything to please those that heattaches himself to, but he will also stay attached until they refuse to allow his devotion anymore. It generally becomes clear quite quickly that his devotion is unhealthy because of the startling levels it can reach. He will go so far as to harm and mutilate himself if he thinks it will make his love happy, as evidenced by his missing finger. Most people will be likely to dismiss him as stupid, crazy, or just retarded, but those who take the time to get to know Chep will see another side; his savant memory, sweet and charming nature, and almost magical point of view. Outwardly: At first Chep will come across as being painfully shy. He isn't really, but he has very little experience with human interaction and therefore his conversational skills are lacking. This is exacerbated or perhaps caused by hisPDD . He has strange mannerisms and a quiet way, but is fairly easily amused and rather enjoys meeting new people. Large groups of people are a different matter, however.Chep is scared by gatherings of people, most especially of people he doesn't know. He is also bothered by sunlight, and therefore is much more likely to be seen in the evenings or at night. In the day, he will wear a pair or two or three of cheap sunglasses. He is almost child-like in his mannerisms and speech patterns, and this gives him an overall air of innocence, despite is past crimes and his obsessive tendencies. Inwardly: Chep is a mixed bag. Due to his depersonalization disorder, the lines between reality and delusion are very blurred. The world around him is more cinema than reality, props cross the line between animate and in-, and people are just players on a stage. But once something penetrates that haze of depersonalization, the boy will cling to it with a quiet but tangible ferocity. He is consequently extremelyattached to a small number of things and extremely detached from everything else. He is generally happy, a bit frightened of the world around him, and comforted by routine. First Impression: That he is strange, eccentric, retarded, and pretty much heartbreaking. Quirks/Habits/Mannerisms: Chep possesses a very unique set of mannerisms. He moves in a jerky sort of way, shuffling along without much thought for bumping into things or knocking things over. After all, he remembers where everything is no matter how it falls. He also tends to splay his fingers out, bend his arms at strange angles, and rub his eyes. He smiles, grins, and laughs often, and can be counted on like clockwork to perform the exact same routine with very little variation each day. Identifying Marks: He is missing the index finger on his right hand. Other than that, nothing. Likes: Movies, props, people watching, popcorn, hoarding things, laughing, schedules, ...movies. Dislikes: Sunlight, noisy rooms, anything that doesn't fit into his routine, when things talk to him that clearly shouldn't be talking, change, unexpected events. Strengths: As a savant, Chep possesses an incredible memory. He memorized an enormous warehouse in a single night, and he generally knows where everything around him is at any given moment. Once he has determined to do something, it gets done, the end. He is utterly loyal, and though he can seem, at times, less than bright, he actually catches on to things quite quickly. Weaknesses: Chep has a very difficult time getting accustomed to change. Even small changes or events that seem abnormal will completely throw him off. While he is fully capable of (fairly) normal human relationships, when he 'falls in love' with someone, his love is obsessive to the point of self-harm, if he perceives some benefit to the other person by it. He is also cripplingly frightened of crowds of people. |
Just because you feel it doesn't mean it's there; |
Disorders: PDD-NOS (Pervasive Developemental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified), Savant Syndrome, Delusional Misidentification Syndrome (Subjective Doubles Type), Depersonalization Disorder, Obsessive Love. Introvert/Extrovert: Introvert. Pessimist/Optimist: Optimist. Faith: None. He doesn't understand religion or faith. Phobias/Fears: Chep hates change. The only major changes he has experienced were the deaths of his grandparents and the mental changes that began when he realized that the prop shop was to be sold, so naturally, he clings to his routines. He also fears loss. Eyesite: Fine Hearing: Fine Left/Right/Ambi: Fully Ambidextrous. Disabilities: His developmental disorder is considered a disability, to an extent. Other than that, no. Drinks/Smokes: Neither, though he thinks both are pretty cool. Physical Health: Not great. Chep is underweight and accident prone, so generally covered in bumps and bruises, but he doesn't mind. What he does eat isn't exactly nutritious either, but being looked after at a place like Cheshire will probably make him a bit better.. |

SL's The Hamish. [OPEN.] The Hamish is a friend to Chep - he does care for the boy, but doesn't often show it. When push comes to shove, he will step up and protect Chep to whatever extent he can, but he isn't terribly affectionate as he is generally quite lost in his own world. Chep doesn't mind this at all, and knows that The Hamish cares for him despite his seeming indifference. The Bundy. [OPEN.] The Bundy and Chep have a multi-layered sort of relationship, in which The Bundy takes the part of the father, the brother, and the best friend. The Bundy looks out for Chep, and even though it sometimes seems that he is hard on Chep, in the end he truly only wants to help. The Sweets. [OPEN.] The Sweets seems, most of the time, to be a casual observer. Chep follows him about and quotes him occasionally, being naturally fascinated by his silent nature, but never really considers him to be a person of consequence. However, Chep doesn't realize the level of thought that goes on within the Sweets, and whenever he is struck with this reality, it surprises him. The Sweets cares for Chep in his own way, he just doesn't really show it. The Detective Barbara. [OPEN.] The Detective Barbara is a figure of authority, and one who scares Chep. He has the ability and the potential to take away those things which Chep loves, and for that, Chep neither trusts nor likes him. The Fran. [OPEN.] The Fran is the object of Chep's complete adoration and desire. He wants no one else, loves no one else, and regardless of whether or not she cares for him, he will imagine in his head that she most certainly does. His love for her is completely obsessive, and he will do anything to impress her. |
